Enclosure 1.

Red 16 NOV OC
I was called in to attend Capt Barnes - Lawrence on the evening of 24 September last; and found him suffering from an acute attack of gastroenteritis, in my opinion due to exposure after the Typhoon of 18th September.
The patient improved somewhat under treatment, until the 29th when symptoms of toxaemia supervened. On this day a consultation was held between myself and Dr. Hidman; and on the morning of October 2nd a second consultation was held, the Principal Civil Medical Officer being called in. Everything was done for him that could be done; but the patient gradually became worse, and broncho-Coma set-in, and he died at 2.0 p.m. that day.
There can be no doubt, that the cause of death was due to exposure.
